Racial Justice

Mission Statement

​The Racial Justice Team at The Park Church seeks to promote and stimulate a community committed to addressing and dismantling racism in all its forms. Through education, advocacy, partnerships and action, we aim to promote equity and inclusion, amplify marginalized voices, and support initiatives that create systemic change. Our mission is to nurture a community that reflects God’s vision of justice, love, and unity, striving to create a world where everyone can flourish, free from discrimination and oppression.​

​What the Racial Justice Team does

  • Facilitates/organizes adult education sessions

  • Facilitates book study discussions

  • Identifies Meaningful Movies about race and racial justice for community viewing

  • Builds the Social Justice free library at The Park Church

  • Partners with other organizations

  • Participates in Elmira Juneteenth

  • Organizes racial justice focused church services

  • Contributes race-related articles and announcements in Cross Currents

  • Sponsors an NAACP $1,000 scholarship annually

  • Honors and celebrates our history as an abolitionist congregation in 1846.

For all of you are the children of God. Galatians 3:28

Each person is created in the image of God. But whenever we devise, maintain or perpetuate systems and structures that oppress people based on race and/or ethnicity, we interfere with God’s purpose and the opportunity for all God’s children to be fully who they are created to be.

 

Racism is an affront to God.
