Meaningful Movie Night is Wednesday, March 8. This month’s selection will be Trumbo.

Trumbo is a 2015 American biographical drama film starring Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Louis C.K., Elle Fanning, John Goodman, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Edward G. Robinson. The film follows the life of Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, and is based on the 1977 biography Dalton Trumbo by Bruce Alexander Cook. In 1947 Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) was Hollywood’s top screenwriter until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs. This movie recounts how Dalton used words and wit to win two Academy Awards and expose the absurdity and injustice under the blacklist which entangled everyone from gossip columnist Hedda Hopper (Dame Helen Mirin) to John Wayne (David James Eliot), Kirk Douglas (Dean O’Gorman), and Otto Preminger (Christian Berkel).
