June 5 - Cantata Singers

50th Anniversary of the Flood of ‘72 Performance!

2 pm, June 5th, 2022, Grove Street Boat Launch, Elmira

Three park church choir members - Kathy Gill, Pat Peters and Martha Horton will be performing with the Cantata Singers

We will be premiering a brand new set of works by Will Wickham and Edward Dougherty titled Surviving Agnes: The Flood of ‘72 Remembered. This set of 6 songs both highlights the great natural resource that is the Chemung River, and also tells the stories of people who lived through the worst flooding ever recorded in this part of New York State.

This free performance, funded in part by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts administered locally by The ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes, is part of a weekend-long celebration of the river in conjunction with the Friends of the Chemung River.

Along with Endless Mountain Outfitters, the Friends of the Chemung River are planning a two-day Season Opening Guided Memorial Paddle on June 4th & 5th from Corning to Elmira, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Agnes Flood. Donations collected during this event will go towards improvements to the Conhocton Street Boat Launch in Corning, to improve the river paddling connection between Steuben and Chemung Counties.
