People for a Healthy Environment (PHE) will hold its annual meeting in Beecher Hall on Sunday, February 5, from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome, in person or on Zoom. Come at 1:45 p.m. to enjoy refreshments and social time.
President Doug Couchon will speak about PHE’s mission, past, present, and future. The program will include a slideshow memorial to Ruth Young, lifelong champion of local and global environmental causes, plus screening of five winning videos from PHE’s 2021 and 2022 Student Climate Change Video Contest.
Guest speaker is Yayoi Koizumi, founder of Zero Waste Ithaca and one of three finalists for the national Reusies Award 2022 in the Activist of the Year category. Yayoi will speak about the Ithaca Reduces BYO program and the larger state and national network she and her colleagues are building. Yayoi describes BYO (Bring Your Own Container, Bottle, Mug, etc.) as “the simplest and easiest way for many people to participate in the climate activism of waste reduction.” Refreshment swill be served.
